Development of a Federated and Generalized Liver Tumor Segmentation SoftwareToolkit

HKUST
Overview

Liver cancer is one of the leading causes of cancer death. To assist doctors in liver cancer diagnosis and treatment planning, an accurate and automatic liver tumor segmentation method is highly demanded in clinical practice. Our team has remarkable achievements in liver tumor segmentation over the past few years.

Problem addressed

Medical imaging contains private information and it is difficult to share the data among different hospitals, limiting the amount of data used for model development. Second, imaging in different clinical centers has large variations due to different data collection conditions, such as scanner vendors and imaging protocols.

Innovation
  • A CT based software toolkit that can be applied in the real clinical centers for automatic liver tumor segmentation
Key impact
  • Liver tumor segmentation accuracy >80%
Application
  • A deep learning method to address the data sharing and domain differences problems for liver tumor segmentation
