Problem addressed

Our system gives a bird-eye view of the location and density of people, which is useful to monitor the number of people, crowd flow, overcrowding, and social distancing conformance in large space, such as parks, subways, event spaces, etc.

Innovation
  • Our system fuses information from multiple cameras capturing a large scene, and estimates a crowd density map on the ground-plane, which provides an overview of the number of people and their locations in the scene.
Key impact
  • The system can be used to monitor the number of people, crowd flow, overcrowding, and social distancing conformance in large space, such as parks, subways, event spaces, etc.
  • The system fuses multiple cameras to obtain accuracy and to see in all areas of the scene.
Award
  • Silver Medal at Inventions Geneva Evaluation Days 2022
Application
  • Resource management (deployment of personnel, cleaners, security) and Safety (detection of over-crowded areas)
  • Crowd flow (real-time traffic flow) and Anomaly detection (unexpected trend in crowd flow)
  • Advertising (ad pricing based on crowd level)
  • Community health (detecting social distancing violations)
