Problem addressed

Compared to ordinary macro bubbles which rise rapidly and burst at the surface of water, nano bubbles with intrinsic larger gas-liquid interfacial area can stably stay and completely dissolve in water for better functional air or gas dissolution.

Innovation
  • NAMI's nano bubble generator developed by computation fluid dynamic enhances the dissolution and surface area of different gases by generating nano-sized bubbles. The air-carrying nano bubbles promote the growth of hydroponic plants and fish.
  • By integrating ozone, the ozone-carrying bubbles possess excellent oxidizing power for water and wastewater treatment.
  • Combining with ultrasound technology, the nano bubble water can enhance ingredient extraction and the formation of nanoemulsion.
Key impact
  • Excellent gas dissolution
  • Wide applications
  • Low energy consumption
  • Low cost
Award
  • Gold Medal at the “2017 Geneva International Exhibition of Inventions”
  • Winner of 2020 R&D100 Awards
  • Silver Medal at the “2021 Geneva International Exhibition of Inventions”
Application
  • Agriculture and aquaculture
  • Water and wastewater treatment
  • Sanitization
  • Ingredient extraction, formation of nanoemulsion
Nano and Advanced Materials Institute (NAMI)

As a Materials Expert, Nano and Advanced Materials Institute (NAMI) has a strong portfolio of innovative technologies to support and collaborate with the industry, offering frontier-applied research on advanced materials as well as technology transfer for commercialization success.

NAMI, incorporated in 2006, is designated by the Innovation and Technology Commission of the Hong Kong Government as a Research and Development Center for nanotechnology and advanced materials. NAMI undertakes and provides support for market-driven research in nanotechnology and advanced materials, and strives for commercialization of the technologies to benefit the industry and the society at large, as well as re-industrialization to promote the economic growth and sustainability of Hong Kong.
