An Enhanced Organic Composting Process for Soil Decontamination

Overview

This invention relates to a composition and a method for contaminated soil remediation. Adding the organic matter (i.e. biosurfactants and specific microorganisms) into the contaminated soil can promote biodegradation of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) in the composting process and soil remediation.

Problem addressed

Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) are a type of widespread contaminants in soil. In the past research, the methods for promoting the degradation of PAHs in soil are slow and lacked efficiency. The present invention can effectively accelerate the degradation of these pollutants in soil.

Innovation
  • The invention introduces an ectopic contaminated soil bioremediation technology, which is to add the organic substances, biosurfactants or its bacteria and PAHs-degrading bacteria to facilitate the degradation and removal of PAHs contaminants in soil.
Key impact
  • The present invention provides a simple and direct process which speed up soil decontamination and its composition and method can be adopted easily for soil remediation.
Application
  • Soil decontamination and soil remediation
