CDD-2105 is an innovative Chinese herbal tablet derived from a clinical prescription. Utilizing modern extraction technology, it refines active ingredients from four herbs based on formulation principles for constipation-predominant irritable bowel syndrome(IBS-C)treatment.
Problem addressed
IBS-C is a functional bowel disorder marked by recurrent abdominal pain and constipation. Current treatments lack sustained efficacy and have significant side effects, with no approved TCM/herbal products globally, underscoring the need for innovative therapies with long-term efficacy and safety.
Innovation
- Utilizing modern extraction and purification technologies, four herbs are refined and formulated per formulation principles. This preparation offers efficacy comparable or superior to traditional versions, with accurate standards and quality control.
- It enhances gastrointestinal motility, increases stool moisture, and reduces pain perception, thereby alleviating both constipation and abdominal pain.
- The low-dose tablet (≤2g per dose)is easy to administer, significantly improving patient compliance, and is suitable for mass production and clinical promotion.

Funded by Innovation and Technology Commission (ITC) of the Hong Kong Government, Centre for Chinese Herbal Medicine Drug Development Limited (the Centre) was established in September 2020, to accelerate the development of Chinese Herbal Medicine (CHM)-based drugs, and serve as a strategic platform to promote collaborations among local and international researchers, institutions and industry. The Centre aims to achieve the goal by enhancing the quality of pre-clinical and clinical CHM research and transforming the results into pharmaceutical products for international markets. In particular, the Centre develops treatments and cures for diseases such as ulcerative colitis and chronic constipation. It also supports the incubation of new CHM-based pharmaceutical start-ups that will target the global market, and nurtures talent for CHM research in Hong Kong.
