Despite the public taking precautions, COVID-19 outbreaks continue to occur, particularly in Hong Kong with its dense population. Due to the ability of the virus to spread easily through the air indoors, preventing its transmission is challenging. In response, PolyU start-up Kanon Manufacturing Co Ltd has developed a disinfection device that can be used on vent pipes to ensure the health of building residents.
Hong Kong has seen numerous cases where bacteria and viruses spread vertically through sewage vent pipes on roofs, infecting residents living on high floors. This phenomenon, known as the ‘wake effect’, poses a significant health risk. This invention blocks this mode of transmission, providing a safer living environment for residents.
