Tunable Amplified Spontaneous Emission (ASE) Laser for High Accuracy Measurement

Overview

Our technology provides a tunable amplified spontaneous emission (ASE) laser source, which is comprising at least two laser sources excited by a single pump laser. It can tune multiple colour emissions from an organic laser, and such tuning can be used in laser measuring devices and systems.

Problem addressed

Currently, there are very few techniques that can provide accurate monitoring and detection of minute displacements in the system. Besides, they are either very complex to implement and/or cannot be up-scaled to monitor a large establishment. The present technology is simple and effective, it is suitable for a variety of industries and applications.

Innovation
  • In this technology, the ASE processes can be used to realize tunable emission spectra of a cascaded organic thin film system, which is consisting of blue and green emission organic semiconductors.
  • The directional emission of ASE from the two kinds of materials can be tuned by spatially choosing the emission signals. Therefore, the system equipped with the laser source and optical sensors can be used for various measurements and monitoring.
Key impact
  • Our technology provides a simple, effective, accurate and scalable method of detecting, monitoring and measuring minute displacements and fine movements in physical spaces.
Application
  • This technology can be used in laser generating devices and laser displacement sensors. They could be the perfect tool for automatic testing and measuring of dimensions.
  • It enables high accuracy and non-contact measurement in different industrial applications such as quality control and process monitoring.
  • This technology can also be used to design a polychrome light source for display, bio-imaging and related applications.
