Overview

The hip protectors are designed to match Asian body sizes and pelvic shapes and are produced through cost‑effective 3D printing. They can be attached to pants to reduce impact forces. By optimising pad thickness, surface area, and hardness, these protectors deliver greater protective performance compared to conventional pads.

Problem addressed

Falls often cause severe consequences for the elderly, including fractures and physical frailty. Hip fractures are the most common injury site, making hip protection a critical priority. This project strengthens hip protection through innovative design, reducing injuries among older adults when accidental falls occur.

  • The hip protectors feature a lattice design and are produced through 3D printing with materials offering high tensile strength and elongation.

  • Compared to conventional pads, the new hip protectors provide higher impact attenuation while remaining lightweight, breathable and durable, delivering enhanced protection and comfort for users.

  • Gold Medal in the 50th International Exhibition of Inventions of Geneva (2025)
Application
  • These hip protectors can be attached to pants for protection. Multiple sizes are developed to accommodate elderly users of different genders, weights and heights, ensuring a better fit and enhanced safety.
