Problem addressed

Medical compression stockings (MCSs) are manufactured according to standard size instead of addressing the particular needs of patients. This high precision intelligent system can produce customised stocking with the aid of the bionic morphing soft leg mannequin.

Innovation
  • Newly developed algorithm to convert collected data of patients' leg into specification for producing compression stockings.
  • The morphing bionic leg mannequin is embedded with a total of 22 pressure sensors, enabling the system to collect data and to identify lower limb dimensions and potential pressurised locations through real-time measurement.
Key impact
  • Customised MCSs are more accurate to address to the specific needs of patients, helping patients to relieve varicose veins.
  • Custom-fit MCSs are more comfortable than standarised MCSs, increasing the willingness of patients to put on them.
  • Customised MCSs save the back-and-forth communication time and cost during stocking samples production.
Award
  • Silver Medal in the 48th International Exhibition of Inventions of Geneva (2023)
Application
  • Customisation of medical compressure stockings
